I just finished rebuilding my entire engine and had to break it in. I don't think your clutch is a big deal. I think you would be able to ride it normally. It's your engine that needs breaking in. But to be safe if you do want to break it in. Run it on a nice gravel road no crazy hills, jumps. Stay in about mid 2/3rd gear and it should be fine.

warm it up, do a couple runs around the field. re-torque the head bolts and cylinders. then be prepared to get your rear-end handed to ya ;)

For what reason would he have to retorque the head?

You should also change the oil before you go riping on it after a rebuild/breakin. Don't run senthetic during break just run some regeler oil then change it out with some senthetic.
03 yz250 has a few bolt ons!!

Heat, aluminum expands under heat, which would loosen the studs and head castle nuts, not a lot, but enough to need to re-torque them

Well, MX and I got the motor back together Saturday, couple of head scratchers during assembly, but the one I missed, is my other son decided he needed my shift lever!! Dennis Kirk get another order, shift lever, fork seals, top end gasket kit, and a few others!! Will be ready to ride hopefully mid week, might fire up the motor today, stay tuned, as the '96 WR250 is re-born, and take down MX86 and the new tech '00 YZ250!!!

Now that is some serious smacktalk right there
The WR250 2-strokes are great bikes. I have a few customers that still ride them in local enduros and hare scrambles.
When I raced pro back in the day ('86-'87), I'd change clutches on my 125 & 250 between motos if it was a sand track. I'd try to do a couple of burnouts on the start line, but basically just install & bbbbrrrraaaapppp!!! Main thing I did was to always keep the plates (yes, the steel ones, too) soaking in a sealed tupperware dish full of tranny oil. That makes a HUGE difference in the first 15 minutes of use. Still do it now, but don't ride hard enough to smoke a clutch in 1 moto anymore.
Over 30 yrs of pre-mix and expansion chambers!!
Current old school resto projects:
1988 Suzuki RM250
1978 Can-Am 175 Qualifier

Sure, you got too much 2 stroke smoke from your baby brother smokin' you down the road!! I take it easy for the first weekend of ridin' breakin everything in nice and easy. and go out last night and run it around the field, some excellent second/third gear wheelies, pull the bike into the garage, and it won't idle.. WTF??? Well, after a cold beer, found out that the throttle stop came out somewhere on the property, yah right, I'm going to find that!! $17 order, and will show up Monday, or spend $35 Fed-X to have tomorrow, guess I'll have thy hand on the throttle this weekend to keep the idle going!! Stay tune for an MX A$$ whoopin!!
No complaints here, have had a '95 wr250, and currently a '96 & '97 WR250's, excellent trail bikes, and have the 3.2 gallon tank, gets you an all day ride or close too one, plus they are all most as competitive as an YZ250, any year!! And when you get one that is street legal, worth that much more, just like my '87 YZ490, street legal skunk killer!!
