Hey everybody, today we traded our 6' snowplow for a 1999 yamaha ttr 250 with a blown top end. This is going to be my Q&A/build thread.
start off with how we got it.
I was told the bottom end was redone and shortley after that the top end blew. The bike is a basketcase and the piston was already out so i took the 1 bolt holding the cylinder head and cylinder on and this is what everything looked like.
We worked on it a bit tonight and got some nuts and bolts sorted out and we played around with the cylinder to see how much of the piston we could get off.
It turned out pretty well but can this cylinder be bored or resleeved? or will we have to get a new one?
Does anyone have a repair manual for this bike? or any parts they are looking to get rid of?
Thanks for reading!

My moms BF is a car mechanic and he had it, i have no idea were he got it tho. Yes i believe it does throw off the diameter so we are going to have to mic the cylinder once we know the bore of it and if it is within reason we are going to hone it once more to get the cylinder in the best shape we can.

So if you have to do all this stuff to it after? why even bother with the tool? you had to hone it anyway.

The hone is used to "Roughen" up the cylinder wall so the rings can seet. Also referring to Cross Hatching

we used it to get the aluminum off the cylinder wall so we could determine if the cylinder was useable or not.

Looks like it's a good bike to learn on. And in the end you shouldn't have much money into it. Great bike to take along for a friend to ride.

TTR-250 should be a Nickasyl cylinder wall, and with the Aluminum piston material you removed and honeing tool used, I would take it to a machine shop and have the cylinder walls checked. As for parts, definitely check WR250F's, YZ250F's, for replacements
