Well I have always like the look of a bike with black rims. My question is it worth getting them powder coated or will it just chip off and look like crap? Can they just be painted and still hold up?

Anodizing would probably be a better option

I know quite a few people who have powder coated them. You can get it done pretty cheap. Anodizing would def be a better option, Im not sure how much it cost though.

How about having a body shop paint them with the same stuff they use for car rims?

Might work, one of my friends is going to school for auto body and used some paint, not sure what it was but I can find out, on the tunnel of his sled. It didn't chip at all so might be an idea too, he is considering painting his rims with that also.

Alright, thats kinda what I wanted to do. Didn't have much luck finding someone in this area who did custom powder coating.

I got some handlebars powdercoated black over top of the gold anodize and its waaaay tougher than the original anodizing was, and it goes on pretty thick. What I liked about it was it didnt really scratch it just kinda left like whiter streaks and when you rubbed a finger across the mark it disappeared. I would do powdercoating all the way.

I had rock valley powder coating do some 125 frames for me a few years back. It was a green with flakes of blue silver and gold looked wayy sik. But check with them, I know there is a place close to FC Mods is sioux falls that does it also. And in Spencer there is a place too. I think they only run about 10$ a rim, then you have to true it and stuff yet.

Um well you come in from the east I think, on that highway that goes through, its towards the edge of town on the north side of the highway. It was pretty easy to find when we went ha ha. I think they have a web site. http://www.valleypowdercoating.com/index.html just found the site. Not the best pic of the frame. The pics of the frame itself are on the other computer, but thats one of the frames I got done there. I think it was 70 or 90$. I think it was supposed to be 70 but since I got the flakes of silver and gold in it it was more.

Reguardless of the kind of paint you use your better off to powder coat. It just last longer and holds to the Aluminum better then anything else. With a bike rim it's always going to see sand, dirt, mud, rocks, and water which are all hard on most paints and even powder coat.
