Looks to me as if he forgot to put the little cups back in the ends of the hub. If thats the case and it has been ridden like that then the bearings are probably destroyed. To find out the year you need to find the VIN which should be 16? numbers. When you find that the tenth number in should be a 1. If not it is not a 2001. if its a 2 it is a 2002 and if it is a Y then it is a 1999.

I would guess that the guy before you for got to put the spacers in. To check that you will need to take the tire off. When you get the tire off the bike there should be a peice that sits where the bearings go that you can easily pull out. It should be metal in the center and have rubber around it so dust doesnt get in, There should be one on each side. They will stick out from each side of the hub. Since Im not very good at explaining here is a pic of what it will look similar too its most likely a little different. http://www.powersportrider.com/CGI-BIN/Z...=117%20.00

Also for the year is there a VIN on the engine somewhere? Maybe on the top of the case near the front?

There shoul be a VIN on the steering tube at the front of the frame. If you can't find a VIN look for parts of the frame whee you would think it would be and look for file marks.

Maybe pull the front number plate off to have a real good look.

thanks for all the advise guys. I looked online at a manual and it looks like i have all the parts that im suppose to have on the rim and swing arm. im now thinking that the collar thats inside the hub might be the wrong one because there is some space in between the wheel bearings and the dust seal so maybe the collar is not long enough. its seems like the outter spacers go in the hub pretty far.

as for the vin number ive have looked all over the bike and cant find one on the frame anywhere.
