hey guys, i am new to the forum and i am wondering what the process is of getting an ownership for a dirt bike
the seller bought the bike from St. Onge last summer and it didn't come with an ownership
since he bought it from St. Onge, i am assuming its not stolen.
its a suzuki rm-z 250 race bike.
what are the steps of getting an ownership for a dirt bike in Ontario?
any help would be appreciated!

The only kind of ownership I have is a Bill of Sale saying I bought it.

That's what i use, a bill of sale.

Most Race Bikes can't be titled (especially in the states)

For us in the states, we can use the Bill of sale to get our bike registered (through the respected Department of Natural Resources)

Now keep in mind that is just so we can use the State Forest.

I don't have insurance on my bike. It's really not worth it for me. As far as I know it is not Iowa law to have insurance on your dirtbike. And it wouldn't matter anyways cause if I got in to a incident with a cop I would proubly just run, they can't catch a dirtbike anyways...

I think I've alwasy had to register my bike when I buy it? Maybe thats just for new ones though that you have to do it right away im not sure. I know on our 125 we had a bill of sale... And we have or bikes all insured im not sure how much it is but its very cheap. I would say its worth it I mean its REALLY cheap I will ask my dad tomorrow but we didnt have them at first because we thought home owners would cover it since its in the garage but apparently not...

I am in Ontario also. Go to the MTO with your bill of sale. You will have to fill out a form saying you didn't steal it and what not, but only if it was never registered. If it has been registered to someone other than what your bill of sale says, you might get a hard time. Also if you can, get him to re-write one or do it yourself and make the purchase price lower so you pay less tax, or even say it was a straight up trade for no tax.

We have comprehensive,my dad said its like 20$ a bike per year... So thats not bad. He said it covers theft, and if we were to get into an accident on the road while hauling them they would be covered.

well i dont mind riding a few trails here and there, and cops very rarely sit at the start/end of a trail and stop you.
i just dont want to get in trouble for something that could be easily prevented

You say that now, its a different story when they pull up behind you! (i know the feeling all to well) ahaha

When i got my ticket the cop told me i coulden't insure my bike and if i did find a company that would it would be more money then its worth.

On another note, i wish i would have gotten the guy i bought my bike off of to write a little less on the bill of sale to save me a little money.

Depends on running, if you know there behind you and you can easily get away in the bush in a matter of seconds without looking back, Do it. I wouldn't start a big chase. if ur far from the bush they you made it obvious that you saw them, then stop.

Who the hell even wants insurance anyway, biggest waste of money these days. You will be paying rediculous amounts for a race bike, you aint gunna cover a blown up engine on insurance. If the bike gets stolen you never get the amount you want, plus your payment goes up!

Well we dont have insurance on our race bikes for blown engine, or for crashing and breaking parts. Just from theft and non riding related incident (such as an accident hauling them or somthing). We may not get what we want back if either of those ever happened but we would at least get something back. Its only 20$ a year per bike... Too me it seems like it makes sense to have it.

I guess not. We have 4 race bikes and they are all 20$ a peice a year. Not sure why race bikes would be more than a trail bike or any other dirt bike.

I guess it depends what your covering on them, They would be the same for theft. But not for repairs.

Ya. I don't know if you can insure bikes for repairs. You probley can I really have no clue but Im sure it would never pay off because insurance would be so high. I can see how race bikes would be more to insure in that case though.
