I rebuilt my crank a couple months ago but couldn't afford to rebuild the rest, so my brand new rebuilt bottom end is sitting in a box at a shop here. Is it safe for it to be just sitting there covered for 6months. Or should it be stored in a certain way.

When we did engines in the diesels we just covered them with plastic so nothing could fall down i nto the cylinder. I would just make sure its covered so nothing falls into your bottom end.

Spray it down with WD-40 to keep the moisture off of it. I do this to all my toys before they go into storage and it works great. Plus it cleans off easier then most storage oils do.


If you can't afford a new four stroke, you can't afford a used one either!

I havent had mine apart for a extended period of time before... a week at tops. I usually just put shop rags around any openings and then cover it with plastic.
For an extended period of time I would say like butcher boy said spray wd 40 on it too keep the moisture off. and cover it up.

I guess I never thought of the WD40. Just kinda tuck it away so you won't bump it or drop something on it[thrumb]

I usually spray a thin coat of WD 40 around the outsides, and dump some pre-mix into the crank and rotate it every once in a while to coat the bearings

Thanks boys, never heard of the WD40 thing. I was thinking to soak some rags in premix oil and put them in the crank as if you were just covering it. But i guess that is pretty much the same thing as you guys mentioned.
