I have been thinking about building a dirtbike trailer for awhile now. I was thinking something that would fit probably 3 bikes or so. Running them in and out of the pickup box is a pain.

I was thinking something probably 8x10. How hard would it be to build a frame. I have a lot of welding and fabrication experience and a decent shop to do it in. Can most likely get axles off some old farm equipment or something laying around in some neighboors trees.

Would this be worth it? Or should I just go out an buy one of them $100 dollar ramps for loading in and out of a pickup box.

We have a ramp and personally I think it works fine. Put a stand beside it and run it up. Can unload and load alone, its not too bad. Some of my friends just took a long 2-8 or 2-12 or somthign and bolted a piece of metal to the end that sites at like a 45 degree angle, that seems to work fine also.

Ya I'm not a huge fan of the 2x6's. Had some bad situations loading with them before...

I built a aluminum carrier that bolts into the trailer hitch, can put a bike right on the back of the truck and only need one person to load the bike.

Ya Im not a fan of 2X6 either but its cheap and works ha ha. If you bolt the metal to the top it keeps it from tiping one way or another and kinda keeps it put. I like the ramp like I said, it stays put and I can load and unload by myself. ALso the ramp isnt smooth its got like rods going sideways so when u get half up you can press the front brake without the bike sliding down, jump on the tailgate and pull it up the rest of the way. Or you can run up the whole way, or ride it up ha ha its really up to you.

It's a really simple trailer. 2"x5"x3/16" formed channels for the bikes to sit in. plywood between the channels. 4 cross members of 1 1/2" x 1 1/2"x 1/4" square tube. 2 for the spring perches and 1 on each end that extend 1' out the side to tie the bikes down. It also has a inverted channel underneath that the tongue sits in and a couple of pins to make it tilt. But that's not really needed because it sits low enough unless you own a pig of a harley and can't lift it.

If you can't afford a new four stroke, you can't afford a used one either!

I didn't build it. some company in osceola wisconsin did. I modified it to my liking before painting it. If you had your own welder and other various shop supplies, I would guesstimate the cost to be about $300 for the material. steel, axle, tires, lights and wiring, coupler, plywood.
